2nd Annual Midwest Mashie @ Lawsonia - The Wrap Up
« on: November 06, 2010, 11:29:25 AM »
Gentleman, round one is in the books and round two is only a cold winter away.

Last year the Midwest Mashie kicked off its inaugural event at Lost Dunes with the West Team pounding (well almost) Tom Doak’s East Team.  It was a great weekend; one that we will hopefully be able to replicate annually from here on out.

This year the plan is to head to the opposite side of Lake Michigan to Green Lake, WI, home of The Golf Course(s) at Lawsonia (I put the parenthesis around the “s” in courses because we will only be spending time on the famed Links Course).

Of course, we will be playing for the hickory shaft mashie which serves as our trophy and is currently sitting in my living room (thanks to Sean Arble for donating it!).

The plan is as follows:

Where: The Golf Courses at Lawsonia - Green Lake, WI

When: May 21-22nd

Golf:
1st round Saturday May 21st (starting at 1:20 pm) - Best Ball teams
2nd round Sunday May 22nd (starting at 7:00 am) - Alternate Shot or Singles

**both rounds on the Links Course (Langford/Moreau)**

Dinner: Saturday evening in the Lawsonia club house

Lodging Options:
- The Heidel House
- The Green Lake Inn
- The Barn at Skunk Hollow
- The Bayview

Cost:  $117 per man - this includes two rounds of golf and dinner.  It does not include lodging.  Also, the replay rate will be $20.  You can either walk or ride - it doesn’t have an impact on price.

We're looking at around 40 guys this year, give or take.  I’ll start the sign-up process now, so just let me know if you would like to join (please be relatively certain you can make it).

The link to last year’s thread can be found here:

Lawsonia’s website:
http://www.lawsonia.com/

I don’t have any pictures of the Links Course, so feel free to post some on this thread to whet our appetite.

Special thanks to Pat Craig for his help setting the event up.

Should be a fun event.  I’m looking forward to it!

Cheers,

George

George,

A little too early for me to commit 100%, but I am very interested in making the event.

Thanks,
TK

I would love to attend this, but getting a personal day in May is TOUGH! The idea of driving thru Chicago (traffic) does not thrill me either! Put me down as a MAYBE.

I am definitely in for next years event. Lost dunes was such a great time this year, and I look forward to helping defend the title this year for the west team. And I am certainly in for a Saturday morning round if anyone has any ideas. Knowing this is coming up will help get me through my first Chicago winter.

Her eye roll acknowledged the fact I'd be leaving for a weekend in May without much "discussion"....

Mike DeVries got on me a couple years ago to make it a point to get out to Lawsonia.  I already have my accommodations set up!!

I looked around at the other courses nearby but the heck with that....I'm playing The Links early and often that weekend.  Anyone is welcome to join an undersized, approaching middle aged short knocker for an early round Saturday morning....

What's the max handicap? Looking at the numbers on last year's thread, I feel my 18 may be a bit too high for something like this. The 8 hour drive from Cincy doesn't bother me nearly as much.
