What is the yardage on the front nine today? Near 3000?

 Two par threes under 150; two short par fives; and a couple of short fours seem to make it historically short.

Only one par 5, #2 is 505 par 4.

First 7 holes are the scoring zone.  After that it's Whoa Nellie!

 What does that say about the routing? It seems quite uneven. Then there are three holes in a row running along the water which seems a tad repititive.

While I'm sure no doubt your tongue is planted firmly in cheek, I'll take Pebble(particularly in its currrent presentation) over any recent or future Open site

That has always been true of Pebble Beach, although it's somewhat less true now that #2 is a par four.  Heck, I was once even par after 7 there.
